Since 1997, Double Dragon has been researching, designing, developing and producing compound perforators, which are long-term supplied to Liaohe oil field and the other domestic oil fields and formed a complete set of scientific research, production and marketing system.
    There are 2 types of compound perforators, conventional compound and double compound, covering 2 series and 6 types. The existing conventional types of compound charges are 76, 89, 102,127 types. The double compound charges are 108,140 types. These charges strictly conform to compound perforator technical standards- Q/SL47-2007 and can be conveyed through wireline or tubing to shoot the aimed layer and fracture oil and gas well formations. 
1.1Conventional Compound Charge 

① Features and Application

On the basis of shaped perforating technology, compound perforating performance can force the prompt released high-temperature and high pressure gas to pass the holes produced during perforating operation through pulse loading and pressure rise rate controlling, opening multi-directional cracks in formation around the wellbore, so that the operational radius is improved and the production is increased. It combines two processes into one, fulfilling both perforating and fracturing in one tool operation, combining the features of simple structure(integral structure), easy to operate, high efficiency, low labor intensity, high cost-effective and low cost. The application prospect is very broad. For low-porosity, low permeability and seriously polluted oil and gas wells, it can shoot to contaminated zone to create a better flow condition for the follow-up operations; for re-perforating old wells, it can clean up old perforation tunnels and achieve effect of production-increasing; for the injection wells, it can increase injection and remove water impurities. Its application effect is particularly remarkable in improving recovery of low-permeability reservoir and heavy oil well.

1.2.Double Compound Charge
 

① Characteristics and application

Double compound perforating charge is optimized and designed at the basis of the conventional compound perforating charge, possessing the characteristic and function of conventional compound perforating charge. In structure, it can decrease the gun diameter, increase the kick-off, fully exert the function of potential penetration energy, reduce the clearance between case and gun body, weaken the jet interface effect and increase penetration.

In additional, installing the propellant at the mouth of the charge to make up of compound charge, make the high pressure powder gas press the jet to impact the strata embrasure, provider the maximum power for enlarge hole, create fracture, de-plug block, and loosen the compressed zone, improve the powder utilization.

The distance between powder and perforating hole is shortest, a high pressure burning gas tunnel can be set up to release power in cluster; the test shows that the structure of double compound perforating charge is steady, it can improve penetration, reduce the damage to gun body comparatively in condition of dynamic load of exploding, powder and charge Coaxial assembly plays the effect of directly loading focused power with the perforating tunnel focusing, it is good to enlarge holes with high pressure burning gas and wash the tunnel, at the same time, the shot density influence in loading compound perforating charge powder is resolved, it can get good effect of big hole diameter, high shot density and deep penetration, the application prospect is very broad.

 Design Principle

Double Compound Perforating technology is a compound technology combining perforating technology with fracturing technology, assembling shaped charge and energy materials together into one perforator. Installing energy materials at charge mouth, detonating the charge to perforate and ignite energy materials, by utilizing the difference of exploding speed between explosive and powder, to perforate to form tunnel first, at the same time part of the energy materials burn at the entrance, the other part of the energy materials enter into the opening tunnels to create large amount of gas to directional press and crack the tunnels and connect with the strata primary fractures, improve the strata permeability effectively. The perforating operation task is completed, the development problem in low and medium permeability reservoir is resolved, thereby, the goal of enhancing production in oil and gas wells is achieved.

       

 

 Ground test of 108-16-90-70 Double Compound Charge

After a lot of tests to optimize the plans, the compound perforating charges are assembled. Stimulating downhole condition, tests are performed on steel target and columnar concrete target, the tests show that the charge performances are stable, the penetrations meet the requirements. Selecting 2 perforating guns, each of them is loaded with 16 perforating charges. Then put the loaded guns down into the cases of diameter of 139.7 mm, fill them with water to test the whole gun. As a result, the top subs and bull plugs haven’t broken off, no cracks in the gun bodies. The maximum expanding diameter of the gun body is 4.4 mm and that of the case is 3.8 mm.

⑥ Circular Concrete Target Test

Make 200 perforating charges, load the front capsule. Sample 16 pieces from 200 perforating charges and load them into the perforating gun, fire and shoot them into the circular concrete target, the size of which is φ3000 mm × 1500 mm, the age of which is 45 days, the intensity of which is 46MPa. As a result, the top subs and bull plugs haven’t broken off, no lateral cracks in the gun bodies. The average diameter of the case is 10.6mm, the average penetration is 686.2mm, the width of widest measured fracture reaches 28mm.

140-16-90-70 Double Compound Charge Circular Concrete Target Test

Make 200 perforating charges, load the front capsule. Sample 16 pieces from 200 perforating charges and load them into the perforating gun, fire and shoot them into the circular concrete target, whose intensity is 46MPa, diameter is 4 meters, the height is 1.45 meters,  the casing O.D. is 177.8 mm. The height of perforator is 1 meter, O.D. is 140 mm, shot density is 16 shots per meter. The test shows that widest measured fracture in the direction of double perforating charge is 30 mm, the average penetration is 844 mm. It fully proves that 140 double compound perforator can create and extend fracture better than the others.
